Castleton, a village in the Peak District National Park made popular through the mining of a rare stone called Blue John, sits at the western end of the Hope Valley. Castleton village is also located near the mysterious Mam Tor or locally known as the 'Shivering Mountain'. As you approach Castleton you pass through the dramatic limestone gorge Winnats Pass where you have Blue Johns Cavern at the top and Speedwell Cavern at the bottom.

You also have Peveril Castle in Castleton which are old Norman ruins completed in 1086 by William Peveril, a favored knight of William the Conqueror. The village itself is beautiful and has a good selection of Tea Rooms and Gift Shops. Christmas is a partical good time of the year to visit with special events, Christmas Tree lightings and Christmas carols.
