The Devonshire Dome in Buxton; now the Devonshire Campus for Derby University, Was originally built in the late 18th century by the 5th Duke of Devonshire as Great Stables to provide facilities for up to 120 horses and accommodation for servants accompanying visitors staying in the Crescent. Nearly a century after the Devonshire Dome was constructed it was converted in to the Devonshire Royal Hospital and eventually in 2001 the University of Derby acquired the Dome to become a campus for the University and Buxton College.
